How can an online service aimed at the unemployed work here, when most people use the Internet on the job?
We found 45 percent of people access the Internet at work, but 35 percent do it from home, a huge increase over last year. People can have a son or daughter print the most interesting job offers, or go to the library.

How long before most Czech homes have Internet access?
In large cities, probably a few years. Small towns and villages, at least five to 10 years.

Does it sap incentive when unemployment benefits are increased?
There must be balance between motivating people to look for work and guaranteeing no one is forced into poverty.

Are the European Union's proposed limits on the free movement of labor fair?
It's a double standard. Some, like IT and telecom specialists, can be lured to Germany or Ireland. Others are stopped from going.

Many people say their nightmare is losing their job...
Whatever happens to a person is basically good, but at that very moment, we as human beings often can't recognize the good in the situation. So we call it a nightmare.

Roman Petr, general manager for Copy General in the Czech Republic and Poland, will head up a new Copy General subsidiary.

The new firm, Copy General Onsite Services, will also include three former Xerox employees. It will manage in-house copying for customers, offering everything from staffing to document design and production, mailroom services and equipment.

Petr has been with Copy General since it was founded in 1991, and helped set up company stores in Russia and China. Chairman of the Association of Copy Centers in the Czech Republic, he is fluent in Czech, English and Polish. He is married with a 3-year-old son and another baby due in August.

Jim Davison, who came to the Czech Republic with the inaugural group of U. S. Peace Corps volunteers in 1990, joins Petr. After finishing his two-year volunteer assignment training future English teachers at Jan Evangelista Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem, he joined Xerox. For eight years, he helped develop the Global Account Program in the Czech Republic. He is married to his former Peace Corps language instructor in what he describes as a case of "love at first sight or jet lag -- we still haven't decided" and they have a two-year-old daughter and newborn son. Davison holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Syracuse University and a master's degree in American studies from Boston College.

Adam Wright also landed in the Czech Republic thanks to the Peace Corps, serving his two-year term, starting in 1994, in Uhersky Brod. He then worked for a company providing relocation services before joining Xerox to handle the role of international accounts manager here. He is married and spends his spare time honing his Czech skills by practicing Moravian folk songs, which he is happy to display with a little encouragement and a lot of Moravian wine. Wright holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Utah and promises that the Utes will win the NCAA Basketball Championship in 2002.

Rounding out the upstart team is Martin Hofmeister, who brings experience in designing invoice and statement printing systems for major international banks and insurance companies. He previously worked at Comparex and Xerox, where he was a printing systems specialist focusing on application printing. Hofmeister is married and still celebrating the birth of his third child, a daughter born in early April. He has an engineering degree from Czech Technical University.
