The Prague Biennale
The sixth Prague Biennale is taking place in the Functionalist-style freight railway station in Žižkov. Since its first edition in 2003, the biennial has strived to present new tendencies in contemporary art from Central Europe and around the world, particularly through its main section, "Expanded Painting." Under the umbrella of the main exhibition, Prague Biennale Photo will take place for the third time, focusing on artists who work with the deconstruction and reconstruction of the photographic image. A special section of the Biennale pays homage to the late photographer Miroslav Tichý. The Prague Biennale continues through Sept. 15. Nákladové nádraží Žižkov, Želivského 2, Prague 3-Žižkov.
Prague Castle-Summer Nights with Marilyn The popular exhibit of items related to actress Marilyn Monroe is open evenings to 1 a.m., with a schedule of film screenings, guided tours in Czech, buy one get one free deals on tickets (read the fine print) and other special events. Municipal House (Obecní dům)-The Lendl Collection of Alfons Mucha Posters Set to be one of the major art events of the year, the entire group of original posters by Art Nouveau master Alfons Mucha which Czech-born tennis star Ivan Lendl spent decades collecting is going on public display for the first time. Wallenstein Riding School (Valdštejnská jízdárna)-Jan Křížek and the Paris Art World of the 1950s Křížek (1919-85) was among the notable Czech artists to have settled in Paris. Primarily a sculptor, he also left a sizeable body of two-dimensional work. This retrospective presents around 300 of his art works and anchors his oeuvre in the context of the Parisian art world of the mid-20th century. Ends Sept. 29. Valdštejnská 3, Prague 1-Malá Strana.
