A new monthly club night featuring London-style music is launching at Roxy NoD. The first edition of Beats.PM at NoD will be Sept. 20, with resident DJs Vidras and Drumax with guest DJs Tuco and Schwa.
Beats.PM is already known to some people from their website and private music lounge. They have been trying to create a European musical outlet that isn't stuck with one genre. At the opening night you can expect to hear a very wide range of electronic music from house, techno, garage, dubsteb and UK funky, according to the organizers.
DJ Schwa plays house and techno and appeared on the scene in 2000. He is also part of the Czech-Australian project Shades of Grey. As a DJ he's traveled widely and lived for more than six years in Sydney. He is also a founding member of BEEF records.
Tuco, a Brit now based in Prague is the co-owner of Meanbucket label and has his own show on Radio SPIN, and from September also on Radio 1. He is known for juke, garage, grime and house.
"Beats.PM is a larger project from five friends that came into being in the beginning of this year. At the moment we run a music website at www.beats.pm; a private lounge in the heart of Prague dedicated to music (listening, chill-out, streaming; whose who have been there already know) and newly … a monthly residency at NoD." Vidras said.
"We feel that quality electronic music that is naturally part of the evolved scenes abroad is nearly missing in Czech Republic. Here it's still very niche - the taste doesn't evolve much, and there aren't many progressive listeners. We would like to offer a platform that comes closer what we really like, and by doing that we'd like to help the scene itself." he added.
Vidras started DJing about five years ago during his studies in Britain, where LPs and mixes were fairly standard equipment in students' flats. "I was always tempted by DJing, but I never had the opportunity here in Prague. I haven't stopped since I managed to get through my very first beatmatch," he said.
The Beats.PM night is free and will also be livestreamed at tv.beats.pm.
